Holy crap.
I just sent our completed draft off to our editor.
*dead*
We’ll have edits to work on, of course, once our editor gets it back to us but OMG I JUST DELIVERED OUR MANUSCRIPT TO OUR EDITOR!!!
Now:
I posted that in my personal journal, and had about 20 minutes of pure excitement. Then, my usual tendencies toward worrying about EVERYTHING kicked in and I felt like throwing up. What if the book isn’t any good? What if I never sell another book? What if people hate this book and call me names and throw rotten fruit at me?
Eh, it happens - well, the rotten fruit thing might not happen all that often anymore. My husband and I went out for a celebratory dinner and, with a few days’ distance, I am a whole lot less freaked out. Kate and I wrote a book and it is going to be available in bookstores in May of 2009, if the plan remains the same as it is now. There is no good in worrying about this being my only book - I am going to enjoy this process and see what the future brings. Because, OMG, we sold a book! And finished writing it!

I have a question about your proposed book title “Lessons from the Fatosphere.” Did you pick this title or did the publisher? The title suggests that you and Kate ARE the Fatosphere, when, in fact, the Fatosphere is made up of more than 100 smart, clever and witty writers. Will they all have bylines in your book?

Actually, we’ve gone through, at this point, four or five titles. We actually considered, when it was suggested, whether or not “Lessons From the Fatosphere” made any sort of claim that we embody the Fatosphere - because obviously we do not - and that concern is still on the table. We don’t want to send the message that the Fatosphere is the Kate and Marianne show - that would be ridiculous. But Lessons From ties the whole book back the to entirety of the Fatosphere - we want to acknowledge the context in which we write and in which our blogs exist. I like it because it honors both our point of origin and the lessons WE have learned from the Fatosphere and are sharing with other people.

Actually,I liked the “Lessons from the Fatosphere,” alot (though I enjoyed your working title too). It did not, even after reading “Anon”’s comment, imply to me that you and Kate are the entire fatosphere - just that you were sharing lessons learned from the fatosphere. I’m excited about getting to read the book when it comes out! I’m sure it won’t be the only book you ever sell, but how many writers even get a first book sold? I think y’all did fantastic!

As Marianne said, we raised the same objection with the publisher. And the publisher wanted “Fatosphere” in the title anyway. These things happen.

No, because they didn’t write it.
